1ST READING. JER 20:10-13. PSALM. 18. GOSPEL. JN 10:31-42.
THEME: LET US DENOUNCE HIM.
INTRODUCTION
The tension btw Jesus and the Jews is getting stronger and fiercer as we approach the Holy Week. In the first reading the people rejected the prophet Jeremiah. Denounce him. Let us denounce him.(Jer 20:10). This is the same fate that Jesus is going through in the Gospel. He is being rejected. They want to stone him for calling himself Son of God. This title means Jesus is God. They understood it and they are not comfortable with this claim. For them, this is blasphemy of the highest order. Jesus for them is a mere mortal but now claiming to be God. This teaching will lead to more tension between Jesus and the Jews. They are not ready for this hard teaching. They see Jesus as the son of Joseph and Mary. How can he be making such claims. The lesson for us here is that we should be patient with others if we don’t understand their teaching. We should not be too quick to condemn others. We should like Jesus stand for truth no matter what it may cost us. Let us be humble to accept the fact that we don’t know it all. Trials and persecution will come our way if we follow Jesus faithfully.
May the Lord helps us not to persecute him in our thoughts, in our words and in our actions. May the Lord sustains us in our struggle to follow Him. Amen.
