THEME: A COVENANT KEEPING GOD.
INTRODUCTION
Out of his divine plan for humanity, God entered into a Covenant with Abraham. He promised him that the Covenant will extend to his descendants and it will be an everlasting one. The Lord who is faithful always to his promises fulfilled this Covenant in the person of Jesus Christ. This perpetual Covenant is brought to actuality in Christ Jesus. This is why we can now enjoy Abraham’s blessing. We are now adopted Sons and Daughters of Abraham, and of the kingdom of Christ. In the Gospel reading, the Lord calls us to keep his words. “Truly, truly, I say to you, if any one keeps my word, he will never see death.”(Gen 8:51). This call of Jesus is a call to keep the Covenant we made with God at Baptism. When we were baptized we promised to renounce sin and live for God. We entered into Divine Covenant at Baptism and we have a duty to remain faithful to God. We have a duty to promote the kingdom of God. We have a duty to listen to Jesus and follow him. We have a duty to repent of our sins and live like the children of God. Has the Lord not be faithful? Has He not kept his part of the Covenant? What is it that God has not done for us? Why do we easily break faith with him? We need to remember always that we belong to Jesus Christ. He paid our bride’s price on the Cross of Calvary. Let us serve him with joy and gladness. Let us be faithful because Jesus loves us dearly. Let us fulfill our part of the Covenant.
May the Lord helps us to overcome every desire of rebelliousness in us. Amen.
