1st<\/sup> reading. Baruch 5:1-9.  Psalm. 126. 2nd<\/sup> reading. Phil 1:4-6,8-11. Gospel. Luke. 3:1-6<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THEME: BRINGING SALVATION TO ALL<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The readings of today speak of the merciful interventions of God in favour of humankind. In the first reading his salvation is manifested through the return of the exiled Jews to Jerusalem. Luke in the gospel explains how the promises of salvation made by the prophets came true. He tells us,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018It all began when the word of God was addressed to a man named John, son of Zechariah, in the desert\u201d and he tell us when exactly it took place. In the second reading the apostle refers to the merciful intervention of God when he tells us of the day of Christ\u201d, that is, of his coming in the life of each person. The message of hope and salvation is promised by God. This message is fulfilled in Christ Jesus. Take off the garment of your sorrow and affliction, O Jerusalem, and put on forever the beauty of the glory from God. Arise, O Jerusalem, stand upon the height and look towards the east, and see your children gathered from west and east, at the word of the Holy One. (Baruch 5:1-9). The Psalmist reechoed this song of restoration. What great deeds the Lord worked for us, indeed, we were glad. When the Lord brought back the exiles of Sion, we thought we were dreaming. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, on our tongues, songs of joy (Psalm 126:1-3). The apostle Paul calls us to be pure and blameless for the day. He started by thanking God in prayer with joy for the partnership in the Gospel. (Phil. 1:4-6). The evangelist Luke tells us that all flesh shall see the salvation of God. John the Baptist, starting his public ministry and calling people to embrace repentance and live a new life. Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; all flesh shall see the salvation of God. (Lk 3:1-6). In this reflection, we shall highlight why God is bringing salvation to all people and how this salvation is made available to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why God Is Bringing Salvation To ALL<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, the Lord God created the world out of love. (Gen 1:26-27) He is the Father of the entire humanity. It is in the nature of a Father to love his children.(1 John 3:2). The Lord God created us to reign with him forever in glory. He desires our salvation and redemption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second, the Lord desires the salvation of all because, He is love. The scriptures tells us, where there is love, there is God because God is Love. (1 John 4:8). Thus, the love of God for humanity is the principal reason why God is bringing salvation to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Third, the Lord God is bringing salvation to all because, He does not want anyone to be lost. The scripture tells us that God does not take pleasure in the death of a sinner. (Ezekiel 18:23). This demonstrate clearly the perfection and goodness of God. The Lord has shown that he cares about our wellbeing, but humanity out of his free will and the weakness of the flesh has abused the privileges that God gave us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How God Is Bringing Salvation To All<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, the Lord God decided to become one of us in order to make salvation available to all. The scripture tells us, the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:14). It was because God wanted to save humanity that He became one of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second, the Lord made salvation available to all through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross of calvary. (Luke 23:44-50). The scripture has this to say, Yet it was our pain, our suffering he endured. He was pierced for our sins, crushed for our iniquity, He bore the punishment that makes us whole, by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:4-5). For God so love the world that he gave us his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him will be saved. (John 3:16)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Third, through the ministry of the Church, the Lord is bringing salvation to all his people. The Master gave us the mandate to go and proclaim the good news to all the nations of the world, whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. (Mk 16:15-16).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fourth, through the universal offer of Grace and forgiveness. God\u2019s offer of salvation extends to all individuals, irrespective of their background, status, or past sins. The universal scope of God\u2019s grace and forgiveness demonstrated His desire for the salvation of every soul and the restoration of relationships with Him. The apostle Paul tells us, for there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For everyone who calls on him will be saved. (Rom 10:12-13).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fifth, the work of the Holy Spirit plays a vital role in bringing salvation to all by convicting hearts, drawing individuals to faith, and empowering believers to live out their salvation. The Spirit\u2019s presence and guidance lead people to seek God, experience spiritual rebirth, and grow in faith and holiness. The scripture has this to say, \u201cHe saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.\u201d (Titus. 3:5).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 These are some of the means through which the Lord bring salvation to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prayers<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lord, make us your instrument of salvation. Lord, help us to cooperation with your grace. Lord, deliver us from temptation and sin. Lord, help us to love you above all things. Lord, give us the gift of understanding and wisdom. Lord, please, sustain us till the very end. Amen. Wishing you a spirit filled Sunday.
