SCRIPTURAL PASSAGES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1ST READING PHIL 2:1-4. PSALM 131. GOSPEL LK 14:12-14.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

THEME: UNITED IN HEART<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If there is any encouragement in Christ, any solace in love, any participation in the Spirit, any compassion and mercy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing. Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory” (Phil 2:1-3). The apostle Paul is calling us to be of one heart and mind. He is calling us to be united in love considering the good of our neighbors first. In the Gospel reading the Lord tells us when we celebrate we should invite the poor and the vulnerable instead of inviting those who are rich and will repay us. The Lord is asking us to give preferential treatment to the needy and the poor in our midst. This is a call to love the less privileged. In this reflection we shall highlight why we should be united in heart and how to achieve unity of purpose and heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHY WE SHOULD BE UNITED IN HEART<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, we should be of one heart and mind because we are children of God. We are a family. The Christian family should be united in heart and mind. This was the priestly prayer of Jesus Christ (Jn 17:11).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second, we should be of one heart and mind because of our duty and responsibility in proclaiming the kingdom of God. For us to be effective in carrying out a duty we must be united in heart. This is because it is indispensable for our success in the ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Third, we should be united because it authenticates the seriousness of our mission. We cannot be taken seriously when we are divided and at war with one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fourth, we should be united in heart because it is a sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit. Where the Spirit is,  there is harmony and unity. This is why we should constantly be of one heart and mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fifth, we should be united in heart and mind because it is for the wellbeing of humanity and the society. Where there is unity of purpose there is harmony and peace in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOW TO PROMOTE UNITY OF HEART<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, we can achieve unity of heart where there is selflessness. It is selfishness and greed that leads us to division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second, humility and simplicity of heart will lead us to unity of heart and purpose. One of the factors that lead us to disunity is pride and arrogance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Third, standing for truth and justice will lead us to unity and harmony. Injustice leads to division and disharmony. The more we promote justice the more we draw closer to unity of heart and mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fourth, we can achieve unity of heart when we strive toward faithfulness. The more we are faithful the more we grow in unity of heart. But the more we live a life of unfaithfulness the more we are divided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fifth, to achieve unity of heart we should avoid every form of hypocrisy and duplicity. Without integrity we cannot achieve unity of heart and mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sixth, to achieve unity of heart we need to make Christ the center of our lives. As long as we live the way we like we cannot achieve unity of heart. The more we make Christ the center of our lives the more we draw closer to unity of heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seventh, to achieve unity of heart we should become who we are in Spirit and in truth. The more we become the children of God in Spirit and in truth the more we arrive at unity of heart and mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are some of the ways we can achieve unity of heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PRAYERS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lord, help us to love the neighbors you have given us. Lord, deliver us from selfishness and greed. Lord, give us the grace of humility and simplicity of heart. Lord, fill us with your presence. Lord, please, sustain us till the very end. Amen. Wishing you a beautiful day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
