{"id":105,"date":"2024-12-18T20:07:25","date_gmt":"2024-12-18T20:07:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/homilies.com.ng\/frcollins\/?p=105"},"modified":"2024-12-18T20:07:27","modified_gmt":"2024-12-18T20:07:27","slug":"holy-saturday-easter-vigil-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/homilies.com.ng\/frcollins\/2024\/12\/18\/holy-saturday-easter-vigil-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"HOLY SATURDAY, EASTER VIGIL, 2020."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SEVEN READINGS FROM OLD TESTAMENT, ONE FROM THE EPISTLE OF PAUL AND GOSPEL OF MATTHEW 28:1-19.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>INTRODUCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Holy Saturday there is no Mass during the day except the Easter Vigil Mass. This is the night of keeping vigil for the Lord (Ex 12:42).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of this night&#8217;s Vigil, which is the greatest and noblest of all solemnities, there is to be only one celebration in each Church. This celebration is divided into four parts. The First Part: The Solemn Beginning of the Vigil or Lucernarium. The blessing of the fire and the preparation of the candle, with the Easter Proclamation (Exsultet). The Second Part: Liturgy of the Word. Here, the Church meditates on the wonders the Lord God has done for his people from the beginning. The Third Part: Liturgy of Baptism. Those who have been prepared will be received into the Church through the water of rebirth. The Fourth Part:The Liturgy of the Eucharist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In today&#8217;s celebration, the Church is commemorating the victory of Light over Darkness. In today&#8217;s Vigil, the Church is rejoicing over the victory of Life over Death. On this day, the Church is celebrating her freedom and her Passover. This is the greatest of all nights. This is the night of victory. The night that Truth triumph over falsehood. To understand the Wonders of this night, we need to pay close attention to the Words of the Easter Proclamation. &#8220;Exult, let them exult, the hosts of heaven, exult, let Angels Ministers of God exult, let the trumpet of Salvation sound aloud our mighty King&#8217;s triumph!&#8230;Rejoice, let Mother Church also rejoice..let this holy building shake with joy, filled with the mighty voices of the people&#8230;This is the night when Christ broke the prison-bars of death and rose victorious from the underworld. Our birth would have been no gain, had we not been redeemed. O wonder of your humble care for us! O love, O charity beyond all telling, to ransom a slave you gave away your Son!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This great Easter Song is so rich that we need to meditate on it. We need to go through it slowly to understand what God has done for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the Church is celebrating her Salvation. She is rejoicing over the goodness and love of God. It is a celebration of LOVE. Yes, this is what the apostle Paul meant when he said that God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in him with not perish but might have eternal lifes.(Jn 3:16).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HOW ARE WE TO CELEBRATE THIS GREAT FEAST?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We should celebrate this day with joy and gladness. We should rejoice and be glad over what God has done for us in Christ Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We should celebrate this day with gratitude to God. This is very important. If God didn&#8217;t spare his Son because of us, then, we should be ever grateful for his care, love and provision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This gratitude should lead us to repentance. This gratitude should bring about a change of life. We should renew our commitment to God. We should intensify our love of God and of our neighbors. This gratitude should propel us to talk about the goodness of God. We should proclaim the kingdom of God and go about doing good. We should run away from every occasion of sin. We should embrace Jesus and submit to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We should allow Jesus to reign in our lives. We should worship him, in truth and in spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lord, You have redeemed us by your death and resurrection, Please help us to be open to your inspiration and guidance.
